Luangisa African Gallery was debuted in 1996 in Mount Vernon New York by members of the Luangisa Clan. The Luangisa Clan is from Bukoba, Tanzania. The Gallery is currently open by appointment only. For over 26 years, we have showcased our beautiful authentic home luxuries and wearable art at countless fairs, festivals and museum events symbolic of Africa’s rich cultural heritage across United States. Our collection is ethically sourced and produced by artisan in our workshops based in Dar as Salaam, Tanzania, Doula, Cameroon; Johannesburg, South Africa. We actively design, develop, stock and offer a unique modern selection of Fair Trade Authentic Modern African Art, Crafts, Home Décor, Jewelry and Textiles that blend ethnic vision with contemporary fusion of African art and life.Most of our products are handmade in these three workshops where the impact on the local and global environment is minimal, while generating employment for those in need, particularly women working to support their families. We also work directly with artisans across Africa to reveal the rich African culture and heritage with the world. The sale of every product directly benefits the artisans who created it, which in turn helps many artisans in Africa in providing the essentials for their families and communities. Thank you for making a difference in their lives!Makonde Sculptures from Tanzania is one of the main focuses of Luangisa African Gallery. Our sculptures are made out of premium Ebony hardwood from Tanzania. The sculptures are carved with only a hammer and chisel and no modern power tools are used. We also focus on the Namji Dolls, Beaded Shields, Tikar Bangles and other artifacts made by the Tikar & Namji people of Cameroon in our Cameroon workshop. Our extensive fine beaded jewelry inspired by the Maasai tribe is made in our workshop in Tanzania.
